Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): A Relationship With Your Farmer

Agrarian Rhythm will be offering a very small CSA program (10-12 members) to people living in Toronto. When you sign up to become a member you'll receive a box of fresh and seasonal veggies and herbs each week for the entire 2012 farm season (22-26 weeks depending on weather).  We are aiming to make the first CSA deliveries the week of May 6th-12th and have the season continue until mid-to-late October.

How it works: members pay the farmer up front for a share of the harvest, valued at $25-30 a week, and then a box of goodies is delivered to your door, or picked up by members at a pre-determined location.

Pricing: If paid in full by March 5th, you will get a discounted price of $450 (that's about $17-22 a week for $25-30 worth of produce).  If you want to pay in stages, $250 is due March 5th, and the balance, another $250 is due April 5th, for a full share cost of $500.

Why being a CSA member is good for you:
  • you get to know and develop a personal relationship with your farmer
  • you know how your food is grown and where it comes from
  • you receive a farm newsletter with stories from the farm, interviews with movers and shakers in the food movement, and tips on using the seasonal produce you receive each week
  • you reduce the total distance your food travels compared to conventional, grocery store produce, and are supporting a local, and environmentally conscious start-up business
  • you get a great price on tasty fresh, local, healthy, and sustainable produce
Why a CSA is good for a farmer:
  • farmers get to know those consuming the food they produce and can easily receive valuable feedback from members
  • a CSA provides a guaranteed customer base which reduces food wastage
  • a CSA provides the farmer with an income boost at the start of the season, when expenses are highest
